We all know that computer has many languages in which C is the basis of all and this language is quite famous. To learn any language of computer, knowledge of C language is essential, so today I will tell you all about C language. What is the C language and why it was created, when, how and who did it. So let's go on your subject.
What is C
C is a programing language developed at AT & T's Bell Laboratories of USA in 1972.It was designed and written by Dennis Ritchie. C language is so popular because it is reliable, simle and easy to use.
Historical Development of C
In 1960,COBOL was being used for Commercial Applications,FORTRAN for Engineering and Scientific Applications. The people started thinking, why not use only one language which can program all posible application. So an international committee came out with a language called ALGOL 60.ALGOL 60 never really became popular because it seemed too abstract, too general. To reduce this abstractness and generality, a new language called Combined Programing Language (CPL).However, CPL turend out to be so big, having many features, that it hard to learn and difficult to implement.
Basic Combined Programing Language (BCPL) developed by Martin Richards aimed to solve this problem by bringing CPL down to its basic good features.
But unfortunately it turned out to be too less powerful and too specific. Around sametime a language called B was written by Ken Thompson at At &T's Bell Labs,as a further simplification of CPL.But like BCPL,B too turend out to be very specific.
Ritchie inherited the features of B and BCPL,added some of his own and developed C.Ritchie's main achievement is the restoration of the lost generality in BCPL and B,and still keeping it powerfull.
1960 ALGOL developed by International comety.
1963 CPL developed by Cambridge University.
1967 BCPL developed by Martin Richards.
1970 B developed by Ken Thompson.
1972 C developed by Dennis Ritchie.
So I understand that all of you have come to know what the c language is and how it was invented, when and who did it. If you want to ask me any questions, please comment me.
